I've gone deaf!!

by SketchWeasel @ Wednesday, May. 31, 2006 - 23:41:08

My ears are bleeding - well not literally, but they ought to be, Mr SketchWeasel and I have just returned from the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton where a certain George Thorogood & The Destroyers were playing tonight.

The evening kicked off with a so-so support act called the Deadstring Brothers from Detroit, Michigan, whose musical numbers seemed to merge into each other without definition or passion, but that's ok, because George Thorogood & the Destroyers took to the stage at 8.30pm and rocked the Civic Hall for the next hour and forty minutes, the audience where a mixed age range from 15 to 115 and nearly everyone was up and dancing (apart from the few stiffs who seemed to have walked into the wrong gig!)

The show was a sell out and I'm not surprised and at £22.50 per ticket was excellent value for money (lets not get into a row about the booking fee, which raised the price of each ticket to 25 quid!)

We managed - eventually after the great British queue to get hold of a copy of the new album Hard Stuff - autographed.
They played new stuff from the new album and standards like Bad to the Bone, One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer (one of my favourites)

I like going to gigs and have to say (in my limited experience) that this was one of the ones that I most enjoyed because it seemed that everyone there was having a good time, no fights broke out and everyone left in great spirits after four encoures!

Fantastic evening and one I shall no doubt rave about for a bit!

Tara a bit all - sleep well x

Random Ramblings ...

by SketchWeasel @ Friday, May. 26, 2006 - 13:54:06

Today is the end of the half-term, so that means only half a term of work left, plus 10 days holiday.....

I've been in a strange space these last few days, so much on my mind, so much to do, so little time to do it and I can't find the motivation to do any of it. Moving house always gets me like this, even though this time I have more notice than ever before ... very odd ....

I should be up and around packing stuff, but all I want to do is sit in front of the pooter and veg and play mindless computer games. Nothing seems to be motivating me to do anything else.

I feel very depressed and scared about what is to come next and have the feeling that I'm not in control - I like to be in control of what is happening next and I'm not, so will have to hope that the divine entity knows what they are up to.

Right now I'm sitting here thinking that maybe I should have some lunch and then I'm thinking can't be arsed, so will either sit on my butt till Mr SketchWeasel will get it or go without. Not a good state to be in... Torpor has most definately set in.

I keep looking round my office/bed/sitting room and thinking .. Christ I've got to pack this lot and then thinking, what's the point - there's still 7 weeks.....

Only 7 weeks .. shit ....

I wrote this ....

Depressed and Down
I wore my crown,
of thorns.
Tight around my head
My fingers crushed
into my palm
curly crescents
till they bled
Numb but in pain
Drowning in my own sorrow
I want a day
not just any day
a day
that's like
Tomorrow

That's about the limit of my productivity today ....

ps .. Finally have a diagnosis for my daughter ... Specific Learning Disability and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Now we can start to do something pro-active about it ..

It's been one of those days - my brain and body are functioning at different speeds again - due to the fact that I seem to have some form of 'flu virus, which explains why my fibromyalgia is playing up!

I can't concentrate to do anything much, so have spent most of the day playing a mindless computer game. Tried reading in the bath to relax, but pain in arms meant that I nearly dropped my book, I don't like soggy books, so gave up after about five minutes. note to self: Buy book rest for bath from iwantoneofthose.com

Thankfully I am off duty tonight which means I can fit in a bit more sleep - hopefully. After days of insomnia all I want to do now is sleep, when I tried last night it was all I could do to stay in bed without wriggling and squirming and keeping Mr SketchWeasel awake. Restless legs are a pain in the proverbial! Add that to racing mind ............ AARRGH!

blah ... blah... blah

59 days and counting

by SketchWeasel @ Wednesday, May. 17, 2006 - 22:25:33

Today hasn't been a good day for me ... my FMS is playing up (Fibromyalgia Syndrome)

I'm knackered and it feels like someone is sticking red hot pokers through the heels of my feet. Getting around is not a pleasant experience right now.

Fibromyalgia is a strange disorder, it's very similar to ME and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and affects my muscles and joints, to top it all I also have a condition called Hypermobility disorder (basically means that I'm double jointed, but in a bad way), whenever pressure is excerted on my joints, they fold.

Ankles, knees, elbows and wrists are all affected at present. Which makes typing quite an entertaining thing to do!

The insomnia that I keep wibbling on about is usually the first indicator that the FMS is about to break loose and cause havoc.

It's all made worse by stress!!

I'm stressed!

I need a holiday - ha ha ha
I've got packing to do - shit!
Oh and some how I've got to get through another 59 days of working here.

Burbs ....

by SketchWeasel @ Tuesday, May. 16, 2006 - 21:09:47

A friend of mine just sent me this clinky thing, so I decided (rather than binning it as I usually would) to have a bit of a squizz.

It made I larff!

http://www.chavelocity.com/

Recently heard on the streets of Dudley, a mobile telephone ringtone, that said 'bling bling, bling bling'

What p*sses me of about the whole Chav thing is, I can't get my daughter any decent clothes in any shop in Dudley or surrounds. I don't want my 9 going on 10 year old wearing belly tops, extra short mini skirts (or as my dad used to call them 'wide belts'), or some of the other so called 'tweenies' fashions.

And neither does my daughter, she's a bit of a tomboy anyway, and likes (to quote Eddie Izzard)'running, jumping, climbing trees and putting on make up'(thankfully on her dolls at present!)

It's got to a point where all of her clothes are getting too small, and the places where we used to go to get her clothes, they are either 1) selling Chav street wear 2)SHUT!! 3)moved to a different town/shopping mall 4)not selling clothes for tweenies, who are taller than the average 9 year old and a girl 5)out of our price range.

When she was a wee sprogling there was not a problem - we could get babywear from most of the high street retailers in Chatham (this was before the mainstream attack of the killer chavs), but here in the midlands, the only places I can actually get clothes to fit her - the bloody internet, which is a pain in the arse, because she can't try them on before we buy them.

8 weeks and 4 days to move and counting .. or as my husband simplified it .. 60 days .. git!

I've been appropriating others' lists again ...

Mr Sketch Weasel and I are off to see George Thorogood and The Destroyers in Wolverhampton on the 31st May!

We also have tickets to see Van Morrison at Westonbirt Aboritum in July - wahoo!!!!

What a fun packed year we have ahead of us! What with moving house (8 weeks 5 days and counting ...)

I hate house moving - every time we do, I say, 'next time we're getting f'ing Pickfords' well ... guess what .. It'll have to be next time, cos this time we can do it ourselves (I am so told!), cos we got the landrover and a big trailer, and we're only going 5 miles as apposed to the last move ... 280!

Still we didn't have much to move last time, just a caravan and a landrover and the clothes we stood up in.

Now we have furniture (again), lots of clutter (again), motorbikes (again), books (again) .. are you getting a picture here yet?

Bloody hoarders that's what we are, if we are in a space, like all humans, we have to fill it with STUFF!

We sold the bungalow that we lived in until 2001 and moved into a caravan, so we got rid of everything we had but we've been living in tied accomodation for the last two years and have collected more shit than anyone could ever use (and we ever had 5 years ago) ... Especially that damn horsebox/camper conversion, still looking for a buyer!

Oh well - off for a meeting with the seller of the house we're buying, to find out what he's planning on leaving behind and to find out if we can start going in and tidying up the very neglected garden before we take possession.

Wahooo ... when I feel heavy metal

by SketchWeasel @ Saturday, May. 13, 2006 - 17:31:05

Yay!!!

Hurrah!!!

And other such excitable noises ...

On Thursday me and Mr SketchWeasel went to view another house, we liked it (it was acceptable for our purposes!) and we put in an offer ......

On Friday, we had a call from our Solicitors, the house we were planning on buying can now go through ... the paperwork has all been signed and sealed by the vendor and we can get on with exchanging contracts in two weeks time. Finally!!

So we just have to let the estate agent know we are withdrawing our offer on house number two. Oh well the offer hasn't been accepted yet, so that's fine.

Today we decided to take the students to Kidderminster rather than Stourbridge for their 'essentials' shopping - you know, cd's, dvd's,footballs, oh and socks and smellies....

It's so much nicer in Kiddy, than Merry Hill (or as it's known to the better class of locals i.e. the non-Chavs, Merry Hell) the pace of shopping isn't quite so hectic, the staff of the shops, less harrassed and brassy looking, polite friendly people.

Mr Sketch Weasel was also on a mission .. yesterday while cleaning the swimming pool, the pump decided to explode and shoot water all over the pump house floor, walls and Mr Sketch Weasel... Arse!

The swimming pool was being emptied of algae laden water at the time, so the pump blowing up was not a 'good' thing to happen. In fact distinctly baaaad!

So Mr SW and I spent some of last night on the web trying to locate a new housing for the perfectly good pump ... to discover that it's replacement is in Australia .. Arse!

Today Mr SW was on a mission to find plastic steel to repair said pump casing, because to replace the pump/pump casing may set us back upwards of 400 quid!!

Last night we saw a band at the Lehr Studio Theatre, Ruskin Mill Glass Centre, Stourbridge, the band are called Little Rumba, and the Sax player was awesome! He deserves fame and fortune.
The band were made up of three blokes, one of which looked the archetypal 'folkie', he sat there strumming his guitar and singing tango songs in a very monotonous way, thankfully his singing and playing were largely interspersed with sax playing and accordion or violin (the accordionist was also the violinist.

What's the definition of an accordion at the bottom of the sea??

A good start!

Always take the weather with you ....

by SketchWeasel @ Tuesday, May. 09, 2006 - 21:26:39

Today - it's been muggy, hot, sticky, misty and eventually sunny - what a contrast to yesterday when it p*d down all day.

It's been a bit of a strange day for me really, I am still completely knackershagged from yesterdays yomp around Dudley Zoo, but couldn't sleep a wink (the insomnia is back with a vengence!) I think the insomnia has a lot to do with the stresses in my life right now which is mostly the house buying saga.

I have however started to pack my stuff, over the past two years I've been collecting and buying all the nice 'things' that I want in my eventually home - wherever it may be, if the house falls through, it may be another caravan, but I shall find somewhere to store my things for the future.

Does anyone want to buy an unfinished project of a 1969 Bedford TK horsebox/camper conversion, only asking £650 or near offer, it's just one of those things we just have to get rid of cos it's so cumbersome.

If you do fancy it, send me an email and I'll get some pics and more details to you asap.

Blattering rain and soggy pants ....

by SketchWeasel @ Monday, May. 08, 2006 - 20:19:59

Muck Fe!

Since I woke up this morning it's been blattering down ... (would have said p*g down but never know who's reading these blogs)

I went to the zoo today - not in yer normal sense - I was supporting a student who was being 'Keeper for the Day'.

If you have ever visited Dudley Zoo and Castle you will know it's on the steepest hill in Dudley (sensible place to put fortifications in the 10th Century).

However when you are as short arsed and unfit as me it's a bit of a bugger - Four times I climbed that fekkin hill today!

We were soaked through to the skin within 10 minutes of arriving and it stayed that way all bloody day. Arrived home smelling of Zoo Poo and sopping wet. First port of call at 5pm - a long hot soak in the bath followed by a change of clothing - except for one minor problem - arse! No clean clothes ... not one pair of clean undies could I find ... balls! So out came my black leggings (bit droopy at the bum cos they are so old - must have had them 10 years) and the t-shirt I wore yesterday to a bonfire in the woods - still smelling freshly of woodsmoke! Oh well better than Giraffe droppings!

It was a fantastic day for both of us - despite the rotten weather (the sun finally came out just as we were getting our lift home at 4pm) We got to see all the behind the scenes stuff at the Zoo, had a great day out and the staff were really professional and friendly.

We were shown the reptile house, and got to meet and hold a King Snake, Monitor Lizard a Glass snake (which in fact is a legless lizard)The guy in charge is a great bloke called Graham and he was just so interesting, he's been working at Dudley Zoo for forty years - that's dedication, he's just nuts about his reptiles and travels to Australia regularly to 'milk' poisonous snakes - bit of a Steve Irvine fan!

I highly recommend a 'Keeper for the Day' present to anyone of any age group, because it's such a great day out! (hopefully if you go the weather will be nicer)

What a difference a day makes ...

by SketchWeasel @ Wednesday, May. 03, 2006 - 10:49:22

Blimey!

It's been 10 days since Mr and Mrs SketchWeasel decided to resign from their positions as House Parents.

We have decided to have a controlled explosion of our lives ... and so far it's going quite well, apart from throwing a wobbly at our boss, who was one of the many reasons for us quitting in the first place!

We finish our job here at the end of term, what will we do next? Who knows??

We have been trying to buy a house since January - but it's a house with a bit of a 'history' - basically a bloke and his missus bought it, they split up and went their seperate ways, meanwhile Mr Bloke rented it out, unfortunately, Mr Bloke wasn't completely honest when he put it on the market, he told the estate agents that he was a sole owner ... whoops!

That was back in January, we are still waiting for the seperation of property papers to pass between Mr Bloke and his Missus's solicitor and our solicitor.

AAAARGH!

As if I haven't got enough on my plate already! Come the end of July, if the house buying doesn't go through, my family are going to be homeless.

We'll just have to buy another caravan and make like hippies again and trust in our Mojo that we will be able to find somewhere to park it, somewhere near a decent primary school, where my daughter will get the support she needs for her dyslexia and mental health problems.

Ho hum .....
